Accommodation
Hotels in Vietnam: Where to Stay in Every City
Vietnam has one of the most varied accommodation landscapes in Southeast Asia. At the top end sit restored colonial villas in Hoi An's Ancient Town, overwater bungalows at Six Senses Con Dao, and beachfront five-star resorts on Phu Quoc. At the budget end, the hostel network is extensive and genuinely well-run — particularly in Hanoi, Da Nang, and HCMC.
Value for money is a real advantage. A well-located mid-range hotel in Da Nang or Hue costs a fraction of its equivalent in Bangkok or Bali. In rural highland areas — Sapa, Ha Giang, Mai Chau — homestays with local families offer access to daily life that no hotel can replicate. We have written detailed where-to-stay guides for all cities covered on this site.

Types of Accommodation
Heritage Boutique Hotels
Converted colonial villas, French-era townhouses, and restored merchant houses — particularly in Hoi An's Ancient Town, Hue's garden houses, and Hanoi's Old Quarter. These typically have 10–30 rooms, character architecture, and personal service that larger hotels cannot match.
Beach Resorts
Resort-style accommodation clusters at Phu Quoc, Da Nang (My Khe Beach), Nha Trang, and Mui Ne. Quality ranges from international five-star (JW Marriott Phu Quoc, Six Senses Con Dao) down to mid-range beach bungalows. Value for money is strong compared to Bali or Thailand.
Budget Hostels
Vietnam has one of Asia's best backpacker hostel networks. Hanoi (Old Quarter), Hoi An, Da Nang, and HCMC's Pham Ngu Lao area all have high-quality hostels. Dorms typically run ₫100,000–200,000 ($4–8) per night. Many include breakfast and free city tours.
Homestays and Guesthouses
In rural and highland areas (Sapa, Ha Giang, Mai Chau, Mekong Delta), homestays with local families offer a genuinely different experience. Rice harvests, home-cooked meals, and access to village life that hotels cannot provide. Usually ₫200,000–500,000 ($8–20) per night including dinner.
