Hanoi has a wide range of hotels across all budgets. The Old Quarter concentrates budget and mid-range options; the French Quarter has the luxury tier. Prices below are approximate 2026 rates — book through Booking.com or the hotel directly for best rates.
Luxury (₫3,000,000–20,000,000+ per night / $120–800+)
Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi
The benchmark luxury property in Hanoi and one of the great colonial hotels of Southeast Asia. Built in 1901 as the Grand Metropole, it has hosted Charlie Chaplin, Graham Greene (who wrote part of The Quiet American here), and Jane Fonda. The historic wing is the one to book — the wing overlooking the pool has more modern rooms but less character. The Bamboo Bar serves some of Hanoi’s best cocktails.
Where: 15 Ngo Quyen, French Quarter. Rate: ₫8,000,000–20,000,000+ ($320–800+) for historic wing rooms.
JW Marriott Hanoi
Modern luxury on Ba Dinh Lake, away from the Old Quarter. Excellent pool, good breakfast buffet, reliable international service standards. The rooms are large by Hanoi standards. Better value than the Metropole for those who prioritise facilities over heritage.
Where: 8 Do Duc Duc, My Dinh. Rate: ₫3,000,000–7,000,000 ($120–280).
Mid-range (₫800,000–3,000,000 per night / $32–120)
Hanoi La Siesta Hotel & Spa (Diamond)
A small boutique chain with several properties in the Old Quarter. The Diamond property on Hang Be has good rooms, attentive service, and a rooftop. The breakfast is included and generous. Rooms on upper floors avoid street noise.
Where: Multiple Old Quarter locations. Rate: ₫900,000–2,200,000 ($36–88).
Essence Palace Hotel
On Hang Bac in the heart of the Old Quarter. Family-run, with genuinely warm service. Rooms are compact but well-fitted. The location means some street noise — ask for a room on the upper floors facing away from the main street.
Where: Hang Bac, Old Quarter. Rate: ₫700,000–1,500,000 ($28–60).
La Maison d’Hanoi (Hanova Hotel)
French colonial-influenced boutique hotel on Pho Duc Chinh in the French Quarter. Quieter than Old Quarter options. Good restaurant downstairs. The rooftop terrace has views over Ba Dinh.
Where: Pho Duc Chinh, Ba Dinh. Rate: ₫900,000–2,000,000 ($36–80).
Budget with private rooms (₫300,000–800,000 / $12–32)
Hanoi Emerald Waters Hotel
A reliable Old Quarter guesthouse on Hang Be. Clean rooms, helpful front desk, reasonable breakfast option. The building is narrow (typical Old Quarter tube house shape) with a small lift. Basic but solid.
Where: Hang Be, Old Quarter. Rate: ₫350,000–700,000 ($14–28).
Golden Lotus Luxury Hotel
Slightly misnamed for a budget pick, but the rooms are decent and the location is hard to beat — a few minutes from Hoan Kiem Lake. Air conditioning works, hot water consistent, wifi adequate.
Where: Hang Bong area, Old Quarter. Rate: ₫300,000–600,000 ($12–24).
What to look for when booking Hanoi hotels
Noise: The single most important factor for an Old Quarter hotel. Rooms facing the street in narrow alleys are very loud from early morning. Request interior rooms or upper floors. Read recent reviews specifically mentioning noise.
Lift access: Old Quarter hotels are typically narrow 5–7 storey tube houses. If you have heavy luggage, check whether there’s a lift. Many smaller guesthouses don’t have one.
Air conditioning: Essential from May through September. Verify the AC is working in your specific room — hotel responses about “AC available” can mean only some rooms have it.
Breakfast: Many mid-range Hanoi hotels include breakfast, but the quality varies from a buffet to a single bánh mì in a bag. Check what’s actually included before using this as a deciding factor.
