Where to Stay in Da Nang 2026: Beach vs City Centre vs Son Tra

Infinity pool, Da Nang

Da Nang has three main accommodation zones with meaningfully different characters. The right choice depends on whether you are prioritising beach access, city facilities, or quiet. The city’s compact layout means all three zones are within 15–20 minutes of each other by Grab.

My Khe Beachfront

The long strip of hotels facing My Khe Beach is the obvious choice for beach-focused visitors. Waking up 50 metres from the sea is straightforward here. The strip runs for approximately 10 km along the coast — the northern end near Pham Van Dong Street and the An Thuong area is the most developed for visitors, with restaurants, cafes, and convenience stores within walking distance.

Best for: Beach holidays, families, first-time visitors who want a straightforward sun-and-sand base.

Hotels in this zone: Hyatt Regency Da Nang (from ₫3,500,000 / $140 as of 2026), Pullman Da Nang Beach Resort (from ₫2,500,000 / $100), Fivitel Da Nang (from ₫800,000 / $32), plus budget guesthouses in the An Thuong back streets (from ₫250,000 / $10).

Trade-offs: Beach hotels are the most expensive accommodation in Da Nang. The area is loud during peak season with beach bars and construction. Getting into the city centre for the Han River restaurant scene and Dragon Bridge requires a Grab ride (10–15 minutes, approximately ₫30,000–50,000 / $1.20–2).

Swimming season: My Khe Beach has good swimming conditions from April to October. From November to March, the surf is rough with frequent red flag days — during these months, a hotel with a pool is essential rather than optional.

City centre (Han River area)

The area around Bach Dang Street along the Han River has the city’s best restaurant strip, bars, and the weekend Dragon Bridge fire show (Saturday and Sunday at 21:00). More convenient for exploring the city’s food scene and cultural attractions.

Best for: Food-focused travellers, short stays where you want to maximise sightseeing, travellers who prefer city atmosphere over beach.

Hotels in this zone: Brilliant Hotel (from ₫700,000 / $28 as of 2026), Azura Hotel (from ₫600,000 / $24), Novotel Da Nang (from ₫1,200,000 / $48), plus budget guesthouses behind the waterfront (from ₫250,000 / $10).

Trade-offs: Beach access requires a 10–15 minute taxi or Grab ride. The city centre has less of a holiday atmosphere than the beachfront. Mid-range hotels here are often better value per dollar than beach strip equivalents — the same budget gets you a larger room with better facilities.

Walking access: The city centre is walkable along the Han River. Bach Dang Street runs for approximately 2 km along the waterfront with restaurants, bars, and the Dragon Bridge all on foot. The Cham Museum and Han Market are also within walking distance.

Son Tra Peninsula

The quietest option. Small hotels and guesthouses on the lower slopes or access roads of the Son Tra peninsula, which juts out north of the city into the sea. Closer to the natural forest, monkey populations, and the secluded beach bays on the peninsula’s eastern side than to the main city beach.

Best for: Couples wanting seclusion, nature-focused travellers, guests at the InterContinental Da Nang Sun Peninsula Resort (from ₫5,000,000 / $200 as of 2026).

Hotels in this zone: InterContinental Da Nang Sun Peninsula Resort (the main luxury option), plus smaller guesthouses and homestays on the peninsula access roads (from ₫400,000–800,000 / $16–32).

Trade-offs: Less convenient for city restaurants, the Han River scene, and the An Thuong cafe strip. Public transport is limited — you will need a motorbike rental or Grab for most trips into the city (15–25 minutes).

An Thuong — the digital nomad zone

For extended stays, the area around An Thuong Street (sometimes called “Western Street” by the expat community) in the My Khe zone has the highest concentration of work-friendly cafes with reliable wifi, coworking options like Enouvo Space (day pass from approximately ₫100,000 / $4), and international restaurants.

Short-term apartment rentals in the An Thuong area are the typical long-stay nomad choice. Studios with kitchen, wifi, and air conditioning start from approximately ₫5,000,000–8,000,000 ($200–320) per month. One-bedroom apartments with better facilities run ₫8,000,000–15,000,000 ($320–600) per month as of 2026.

The area has its own self-contained infrastructure — supermarkets, laundries, gyms, international restaurants, and cafes — so you can live day-to-day without leaving the neighbourhood.

Practical notes

Peak season: July–August is the hottest domestic holiday peak. Beach hotel prices spike significantly — expect to pay 30–50% more than shoulder season rates. Book at least one month ahead or accept higher rates. The shoulder months of March–May and September–October offer the best combination of good weather and reasonable prices.

Airport proximity: Da Nang International Airport is centrally located — approximately 5–10 minutes from both the city centre and beach hotels by car. A Grab ride costs ₫30,000–80,000 ($1.20–3.20). Do not pay extra for hotel airport transfer packages.

Hoi An access: Hoi An Ancient Town is approximately 30 km south of Da Nang (30–45 minutes by car). If you plan to split time between Da Nang and Hoi An, staying in the southern part of the Da Nang beach strip reduces travel time. Alternatively, staying in Hoi An and making a day trip to Da Nang is equally practical.

Booking platforms: Direct booking through hotel websites sometimes offers better rates than Booking.com or Agoda for mid-range Vietnamese hotels. For budget guesthouses, walk-in rates are often lower than online rates, particularly in the off-season.
