Ba Na Hills is a French colonial hill station 1,500m above sea level in the Truong Son Mountains, 25km west of Da Nang. The Vietnamese company Sun World has developed it into one of the country’s largest theme park complexes — complete with a recreated French Village, indoor amusement parks, manicured gardens, and the Golden Bridge that went viral worldwide in 2018.
It is unambiguously commercial and theme-park in character. It is also genuinely spectacular. The cable car ride is among the longest in the world, the mountain temperatures are 10°C cooler than Da Nang’s coast, and the views from the bridge on clear mornings justify the trip on their own.
The Golden Bridge
The Golden Bridge (Cầu Vàng) opened in 2018 and became one of the most-photographed structures in Vietnam within months. The 150-metre pedestrian bridge appears to be cradled in two enormous stone hands emerging from the mountain — an arresting visual at any time of day.
The bridge sits at around 1,400m elevation. On clear days the view extends over the forested valleys to the coast. In late morning or after heavy rain, cloud often wraps around the bridge completely — which creates its own effect but obscures the valley. Arrive early for the best visibility.
The bridge experience is brief — a 10–15 minute walk to cross and return — but it is the centrepiece of the visit for most people. Lines form quickly once the day coaches arrive.
Cable car
The Ba Na Hills cable car system holds multiple Guinness records and is legitimately impressive. The main gondola line covers 5.8km in a single unbroken span, climbing 1,291m in elevation. The journey takes around 20 minutes one way through mountain forest.
There are multiple cable car segments within the resort connecting different zones — all included in the entry ticket. The ride from the bottom terminal is the most dramatic.
Note: On windy days, cable car sections occasionally pause or close temporarily. This is uncommon but happens. If cable cars are halted at descent time, expect queues.
Resort layout
The resort occupies a large area across multiple elevation levels connected by cable cars and pathways.
French Village: The signature section of the resort is a recreated mock-medieval French town with towers, cobblestones, flower gardens, wine cellar, and European-style restaurants. The architecture is elaborate and the gardens are well-maintained. It reads as theatrical — which it is — but the execution is thorough.
Fantasy Park: An indoor amusement park with rides, games, and entertainment for children. Included in the entry ticket. The scale is large — multiple levels with a variety of ride types. Families with children will spend significant time here.
Le Jardin d’Amour: A set of nine themed gardens at the upper elevation. Well-planted, peaceful compared to the busier zones, and good for the views. Named sections include The Garden of Eden, The Garden of Love, and The Garden of the Holy See.
Wax Museum: Figures of celebrities, historical figures, and Vietnamese cultural icons. Standard tourist attraction fare.
Linh Ung Pagoda: An active Buddhist pagoda near the summit with mountain views. Quieter than the main resort zones.
Entry fees and what’s included
The all-inclusive ticket covers cable cars, Fantasy Park, and the main resort areas. As of early 2026:
- Adults: ₫750,000 (~$30)
- Children 1–1.3m height: ₫600,000 (~$24)
- Children under 1m: Free
Tickets are purchased at the base terminal. There is no separate Golden Bridge ticket — it is part of the resort entry. Booking online in advance does not currently offer a discount but saves time at the counter on busy days.
Food and drink within the resort is sold at standard tourist prices — budget ₫80,000–150,000 ($3.20–6) for a main meal at the French Village restaurants. Bringing snacks is allowed.
Getting there
Ba Na Hills is 25km from central Da Nang with no direct public transport.
Grab/taxi: The most practical option. Allow 40–50 minutes one way. A Grab car from central Da Nang costs approximately ₫200,000–250,000 ($8–10) one way. Standard taxis are available but Grab is recommended for transparent pricing. The road is winding mountain road for the final section.
Organised tour: Many Da Nang hotels and tour operators offer Ba Na Hills day tours, typically including transport, entry ticket, and a guide, from around $40–50 per person. Useful if you prefer not to manage Grab at both ends.
Motorbike: Possible for experienced riders. The mountain road has tight switchbacks. Not recommended for inexperienced riders.
Return transport: Book a Grab in advance for the return journey or confirm taxi availability — signal is limited at the top, and Grab pickups may take longer. Some organised tours include return transport.
When to go
Opening hours: The resort opens at 07:00. The Golden Bridge is most photogenic in early morning when the light is soft and the crowds are smaller. Aim to arrive at the base terminal no later than 08:00 for the best experience.
Season: Ba Na Hills operates year-round. The Da Nang dry season (March to August) gives more reliable clear-day views. Between September and February, cloud and mist are more frequent — which is atmospheric but may obscure the full valley panorama. The resort itself is weather-independent since Fantasy Park is indoors.
Day of week: Weekdays are significantly less crowded than weekends and Vietnamese public holidays. Avoid national holidays if possible — queues for cable cars can be substantial.
Temperature
At 1,500m, Ba Na Hills is reliably 10–15°C cooler than Da Nang’s coast. On a 35°C coastal day, the summit can be a comfortable 22–25°C. Bring a light layer if you run cold — the gardens and cable cars can feel cool in the breeze.
Time needed
Allow 4–5 hours for a full visit including the Golden Bridge, French Village, Fantasy Park, and gardens. A focused visit to the Golden Bridge and French Village only can be done in 2–3 hours, though the entry ticket cost makes a longer visit better value.
Is it worth it?
Ba Na Hills divides opinion among travellers. The honest answer: if you expect a natural mountain experience, it will disappoint. Every zone is developed, the crowds can be significant, and the French Village aesthetic is artificial.
If you go knowing it is a theme park with spectacular cable cars and one genuinely photogenic bridge, it delivers well. The Golden Bridge views are real. The cable car is genuinely impressive. The gardens are well-kept. Children will enjoy Fantasy Park. The price is reasonable by international theme park standards.
We recommend going early and treating the Golden Bridge as the primary objective. Everything else is a bonus.
Combining with Marble Mountains
The Marble Mountains (Ngu Hanh Son) are 15km from central Da Nang and 20–25 minutes from the Ba Na Hills access road. Entry is ₫40,000 ($1.60). Adding a late afternoon visit on the return from Ba Na Hills is logistically straightforward and makes good use of the day — the cooler afternoon light at the Marble Mountains viewpoint is often better than midday.
