Da Nang’s food scene bridges the refined tradition of Hue cuisine and the lighter, herb-forward cooking of Hoi An. The city’s own signature dishes — mi quang noodles and banh xeo — are worth seeking out.
Mi Quang (Da Nang turmeric noodles)
The central Vietnam signature noodle dish. Thick yellow turmeric-stained rice noodles in a small amount of broth (unlike pho’s full bowl of soup, mi quang is closer to a sauced noodle dish). Toppings include shrimp, pork, quail eggs, peanuts, sesame crackers, and a large pile of fresh herbs and banana blossom.
Quan Mi Quang 1A (1 Hai Phong Street): Widely regarded as the best mi quang in Da Nang. A busy local restaurant open for breakfast and lunch only. Arrive by 09:00 for the freshest broth. ₫35,000–55,000 ($1.40–2.20).
Pham Hong Thai Street: A street with multiple mi quang vendors operating side by side — walk the street, look at the bowls being served, pick the busiest one.
Banh xeo (Vietnamese sizzling pancake)
A large crispy rice flour and turmeric pancake filled with shrimp, pork, and bean sprouts. Eaten by wrapping pieces in rice paper with fresh herbs and dipping in peanut and fish sauce. Da Nang’s version is larger and crispier than the southern Vietnamese equivalent.
Banh Xeo Ba Duong (K280/23 Hoang Dieu): Long-running spot widely cited as the best banh xeo in Da Nang. ₫40,000–60,000 ($1.60–2.40) per pancake.
Seafood on the beach
Several seafood restaurants operate along the My Khe beachfront — fresh catch cooked simply. Grilled whole fish, clams in lemongrass, crab, and squid. Prices are higher than street stalls but seafood quality is good.
Quan Trung Bep Bien (beachfront): Good quality grilled seafood. ₫150,000–400,000 ($6–16) per person.
Banh Trang Nuong (Vietnamese pizza)
A Da Nang street food invention — rice paper topped with egg, shrimp paste, spring onion, and dried shrimp, grilled over charcoal. The result is a crispy, flavourful disc. Sold at street stalls in the evening. ₫20,000–35,000 ($0.80–1.40).
Cao Lau (Hoi An dish, available in Da Nang)
The thick, ash-water-treated noodle dish from Hoi An is available in Da Nang at several restaurants. Not as good as in Hoi An itself but accessible without the day trip. ₫40,000–70,000 ($1.60–2.80).
International dining
Da Nang’s An Thuong Street area near the beach has a higher concentration of international restaurants than most Vietnamese cities of comparable size — pizza, burgers, tacos, Indian food. Prices are higher than Vietnamese street food but reasonable by international standards.
Breweries and craft beer
Da Nang has a growing craft beer scene. Jungle Bar and several beachside establishments serve local craft beers. Prices: ₫60,000–100,000 ($2.40–4) per pint.
