Things to do here

The top-rated tours and activities here — all with instant confirmation and free cancellation on most bookings.

By flight (main option)

Phu Quoc International Airport (PQC) is 5km north of Duong Dong town. It handles both domestic and international flights.

From HCMC (Tan Son Nhat, SGN): 1 hour. VietJet, Bamboo Airways, and Vietnam Airlines operate multiple flights daily. Domestic fares: ₫500,000–1,500,000 ($20–60) depending on booking timing. Book at least 2 weeks ahead for peak season.

From Hanoi (Noi Bai, HAN): 2 hours. Direct flights with the same carriers. ₫700,000–2,000,000 ($28–80).

From Da Nang (DAD): Direct flights available. 1.5 hours.

International: Direct flights from Singapore, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Seoul, and several Chinese cities. Phu Quoc has visa-free entry for up to 30 days for all nationalities — the only part of Vietnam with this blanket policy.

Airport to accommodation: Grab from the airport to Long Beach: ₫100,000–200,000 ($4–8), approximately 10 minutes. Most resorts offer free or paid transfers — confirm when booking.

By ferry from Ha Tien

Ha Tien is a coastal town on the Vietnamese mainland opposite Phu Quoc, 50km northeast of the island. Superdong and Phu Quoc Express operate high-speed ferry services.

Journey time: 45 minutes. Price: ₫230,000–280,000 ($9.20–11.20) per person. Frequency: Multiple departures daily, 06:00–16:30.

Getting to Ha Tien: Buses from HCMC (Mien Tay Bus Station) to Ha Tien: 5 hours, ₫150,000–200,000 ($6–8). Also accessible from Can Tho (3 hours) or Chau Doc (2 hours).

By ferry from Rach Gia

Rach Gia is a larger city 120km east of Phu Quoc. The ferry route is longer than Ha Tien.

Journey time: 2.5 hours. Price: ₫200,000–260,000 ($8–10.40). Frequency: Several departures daily.

The Rach Gia route makes sense for travellers coming from the Mekong Delta who can reach Rach Gia directly. Ha Tien is closer to the island but harder to reach from HCMC directly.

Phu Quoc to Cambodia

The island’s position makes Cambodia access straightforward. Ha Tien is the nearest border crossing (Xa Xia). From Phu Quoc: ferry to Ha Tien → tuk-tuk or taxi to Xa Xia border → cross into Cambodia. Kampot is 30km from the Cambodian side.

This route is popular for travellers doing a Vietnam → Cambodia loop, as Phu Quoc avoids the Moc Bai land crossing at HCMC.

Getting around the island

There is no useful public bus network on Phu Quoc. The main transport options:

Grab: Available and reliable for town trips and airport transfers. Less coverage in the south and far north.

Motorbike rental: ₫100,000–180,000 ($4–7.20) per day. Essential for reaching Sao Beach, the northern cape, and the pepper farms. Most rental bikes are semi-automatic.

Taxi/private car: Available from the airport and hotels. More expensive but useful for groups with luggage.
