Things to do here
The top-rated tours and activities here — all with instant confirmation and free cancellation on most bookings.
Duong Dong Night Market (Cho Dem)
The most practical evening option for self-directed eating. Grilled seafood, noodle soups, Vietnamese snacks, and fresh fruit. Open from approximately 18:00 daily. Prices are tourist-adjusted but fair for the seafood quality.
What to order: Grilled scallops with spring onion and peanut (so diep nuong mo hanh) are the island specialty. Also: grilled prawns, banh mi, and fresh coconut.
Bun Quay — Phu Quoc’s signature noodle dish
Bun quay is a Phu Quoc-specific dish — thin rice noodles served with a seafood broth, shrimp, squid, and a bowl of dipping sauce. The noodles are stirred (quay) in the broth rather than submerged. This is the dish to seek out specifically on the island.
Where to eat it: Small local restaurants around Duong Dong town market area. Look for places with plastic stools and a Vietnamese-language menu. ₫50,000–80,000 ($2–3.20) per bowl.
Banh Canh Cua (crab noodle soup)
A thick, slightly gelatinous noodle soup with mud crab, served with a squeeze of lime and chilli. Another Phu Quoc local speciality. Found in small restaurants in Duong Dong. ₫60,000–100,000 ($2.40–4).
Seafood restaurants (Long Beach strip)
The beachfront restaurants along Long Beach and around the southern resort areas serve grilled and cooked seafood at higher prices than town. Reasonable quality. The price per kg for tiger prawns, lobster, crab, and squid is displayed at the counter — check before ordering.
Honest pricing note: Lobster on Long Beach: ₫400,000–800,000 ($16–32) per 500g depending on season and restaurant. Fresh crab: ₫200,000–400,000 ($8–16) per kg. These are tourist prices, not local market prices. The same ingredients at the night market cost 40–60% less.
Ganesh Indian Restaurant
Long Beach. Caters to the international tourist population with a reliable Indian menu. Useful for travellers who want a break from Vietnamese food. ₫100,000–200,000 ($4–8) for main dishes.
Chez Carole
Long Beach north. French-run restaurant — the owner family has been on the island for over 20 years. European and Vietnamese menu, good wine selection. More expensive but consistent quality. ₫200,000–400,000 ($8–16) per person for a full meal.
Local eating tips
The cheapest eating is always in Duong Dong town, not on the beach. A com binh dan (mixed rice plate) lunch in town: ₫40,000–70,000 ($1.60–2.80). The town market area (Cho Duong Dong) has several small restaurants open from early morning.
