Quy Nhon and Binh Dinh province have several beaches of different characters, from the city centre bay to remote turquoise water inlets accessible only by boat.
Quy Nhon Beach (main city beach)
A 2km crescent bay directly in the city. The water is clear, the sand is reasonably clean, and the beach has enough space that it doesn’t feel overcrowded outside the Vietnamese holiday peak. Hotels and restaurants line the beach road.
Swimming: Good April–October. The bay is semi-protected and calmer than open Pacific beaches.
Sunset: The western-facing bay gets good sunset colours in the dry season. The beach road at sunset is the main evening promenade for Quy Nhon residents.
Bai Xep Beach
10km south of the city. A small fishing village bay with a calm beach in front of the traditional stilted fishing community. The beach is compact — perhaps 300m of sand — but the setting with the fishing boats, the wooden jetties, and the village behind is exceptional.
How to get there: Motorbike (20 minutes) or bicycle (45 minutes). The road south from the city is straightforward.
Accommodation: Several small guesthouses have opened in Bai Xep. Staying here rather than the city gives a morning beach experience without tourist infrastructure.
Fishing boats: The traditional round bamboo basket boats (thuyen thung) are still in use at Bai Xep. Fishermen go out before dawn and return mid-morning — watching the boats come in with the catch is worth getting up early for.
Ky Co Beach
The most visually impressive beach in the Quy Nhon area. 25km south of the city, accessible only by a combination of road (to the ferry point) and boat (5–10 minutes). The water at Ky Co is turquoise and clear — a different water quality from the main city beach.
How to get there: Motorbike to the ferry point near Ghenh Rang (15km from city), then take a boat (₫30,000–50,000 / $1.20–2 per person) to Ky Co. Round trip by boat: ₫60,000–100,000 ($2.40–4).
The boat journey along the cliff coast is itself scenic. The beach at Ky Co has snorkelling possibilities (coral patches) and the clear water makes it a full day activity.
Best time: Weekdays in April–August. Weekends and Vietnamese holidays are crowded with domestic visitors.
Ghenh Rang (Stone Cemetery)
Not a swimming beach — a rocky headland at the south end of the main city beach with eroded stone formations, sea views, and walking paths through the rocks. The name refers to the photogenic rock landscape rather than an actual cemetery. Free to visit.
