Quy Nhon’s surrounding region has Cham archaeological sites, a dramatic lagoon bridge, and highland routes into the central highlands. Most are accessible by motorbike from the city.
Banh It Towers (20km north)
The most significant Cham site near Quy Nhon — four towers from the 11th–12th centuries on a hilltop above rice paddies and the lagoon. The main tower (the Tien Tower) is one of the larger surviving Cham towers in Vietnam.
The setting is better than the Twin Towers in the city — the hilltop position with the valley below gives context for the towers as a ceremonial religious complex.
Getting there: Motorbike north on Highway 1, then the access road to the towers. 20km from the city centre, 30 minutes. ₫20,000 ($0.80) entry.
Duong Long Towers (An Nhon, 50km north)
The tallest surviving Cham towers in Vietnam. Three brick towers from the 12th century in an agricultural plain near An Nhon town. Less visited than the My Son sanctuary near Hoi An and less atmospheric in setting, but architecturally significant. 50km by motorbike — a longer day trip.
Thi Nai Bridge
A 7km road bridge across the Thi Nai Lagoon connecting the Quy Nhon peninsula to the mainland. The longest sea bridge in Vietnam at time of construction. The drive across the bridge with the lagoon and mountains on both sides is worth doing once. Start from the city end and drive the full length.
Vinh Son Waterfalls (65km west)
In the foothills of the central highlands west of the city. A series of waterfalls and swimming holes in the forests above the coastal plain. The road from Quy Nhon climbs steadily — a scenic motorbike route. ₫30,000 ($1.20) entry. Best visited April–August when the water flow is good.
Kon Tum Highlands
The central highlands city of Kon Tum is 200km west of Quy Nhon. Accessed via a mountain road through Gia Lai province. Not a day trip — requires an overnight. For travellers interested in highland minority cultures (Ba Na, Gia Rai), the highlands west of Quy Nhon are accessible and less visited than the Sapa circuit.
Practical logistics
Motorbike for day trips: ₫150,000–200,000 ($6–8) per day from city guesthouses. Automatic scooters available. All road access to the day trip sites is paved.
Guided motorbike tours: Guesthouses in Quy Nhon can arrange guided day trips on motorbike to the Cham tower circuit (Banh It + Twin Towers + sometimes Duong Long). ₫300,000–500,000 ($12–20) per person for a guided day.
