Where to Stay in Hoi An 2026: Old Town vs Beach vs Cam Nam
Hoi An accommodation divides into three main zones with different experiences. The old town area is most convenient; the beach is most scenic; Cam Nam is the quiet middle option.
Ancient Town area (most convenient)
Within walking distance of the old quarter, the Japanese bridge, and the riverside restaurants. The old town itself doesn’t allow accommodation — the heritage buildings are maintained as homes and shops — so the accommodation is in the streets immediately surrounding the old quarter.
This area has the highest concentration of guesthouses, boutique hotels, and backpacker hostels. Easy access to everything makes it the default choice. Streets like Nguyen Phuc Chu, Nguyen Thi Minh Khai, and Le Loi have good options.
Drawback: The streets near the old quarter can be noisy at night from the tourist restaurants and bars. Choose accommodation one or two streets back from the main strip for quieter evenings.
An Bang Beach (4km east)
A different experience from the old town area — the accommodation here is beach-focused. Smaller guesthouses and some boutique properties close to An Bang Beach. Better for morning beach swims and the beach bar scene.
The downside is distance from the old town. A bicycle ride (4km, 20–30 minutes) covers it, but you need to commit to the bike or a taxi for any evening old town visit.
Cam Nam Island
A small island south of the old town connected by a narrow bridge. Quieter and cheaper than the town side. Several guesthouses and small hotels here with garden settings. 10-minute walk to the old quarter.
Good option for travellers who want quiet nights without paying resort prices.
Practical notes for Hoi An
Bicycles: Nearly all Hoi An accommodation provides free or very cheap bicycle rental. This is the best way to move around town and to the beach.
Flooding: October–November flooding in Hoi An is real and occasionally severe. Some accommodation sections flood more than others. Ask about historical flooding before booking if visiting in this period.
Early vs late booking: Hoi An is a major tourist destination and peak months (July–August) sell out well in advance. Book minimum 2 weeks ahead in peak season. Shoulder season is more flexible.
