Where to Stay in Ha Giang 2026: Town Guesthouses and Loop Accommodation
Ha Giang town is the starting and finishing point for the loop. The towns along the loop (Quan Ba, Yen Minh, Dong Van, Meo Vac) each have guesthouses ranging from basic to adequate.
Ha Giang town
Ha Giang is a provincial capital with reasonable infrastructure by northern Vietnam standards. The guesthouse area is concentrated around Nguyen Trai Street and the river area.
What to look for: A guesthouse that can assist with the permit registration, motorbike rental, and basic loop advice. The better options in Ha Giang town have English-speaking staff who can help plan the loop and arrange Easy Rider guides.
Price range: Budget guesthouses ₫200,000–400,000 ($8–16). Mid-range with AC and hot water ₫400,000–800,000 ($16–32).
Ha Giang Backpackers Hostel: The most social option in Ha Giang town. Geared toward loop travellers, organises group departures, has an Easy Rider network. Dorm from ₫150,000–200,000 ($6–8).
Along the loop
Quan Ba: Small town with basic guesthouses. ₫100,000–250,000 ($4–10) per night. Meals available at local restaurants.
Yen Minh: More options than Quan Ba. The town is the mid-point and a good fuel and food stop regardless of overnight choice. Some travellers push through Yen Minh on Day 2 and head for Dong Van.
Dong Van: The best accommodation on the loop. Several guesthouses with good facilities by loop standards, some with rooftop views over the stone town. ₫150,000–350,000 ($6–14) per night.
Meo Vac: Growing guesthouse scene. The Sunday market timing means Meo Vac fills up on Saturday nights — book ahead or arrive early Saturday if planning to be there for the Sunday market. ₫150,000–300,000 ($6–12) per night.
Homestay accommodation
Several villages along the loop offer homestay accommodation in ethnic minority homes. The facilities are basic — thin mattresses, cold water, squat toilets are common — but the experience of being in a working village rather than a guesthouse is worth it for those prepared for the conditions.
Prices: ₫100,000–200,000 ($4–8) per person, often including dinner and breakfast cooked by the family.
What to expect everywhere on the loop
Power cuts are occasional. Hot water in budget guesthouses is sometimes “solar hot water” which means lukewarm in the morning and cold in the evening after the sun has been gone for hours. Wifi exists in Ha Giang town and in the main loop towns but is unreliable in rural sections. Mobile data on Viettel is the better option.
The loop guesthouses are not luxurious. They are clean enough, functional enough, and part of the experience rather than separate from it.
