Vietnam’s General Statistics Office confirmed the figure on 13 September 2026: 15.912 million international tourist arrivals in the first eight months of the year — a 14.4% increase on the same period in 2025.
The number keeps Vietnam’s National Tourism Administration’s full-year target of 25 million international visitors firmly within reach. To hit that number, the final four months of the year would need to deliver roughly 9 million more arrivals — consistent with 2025’s Q4 performance, which benefited strongly from the October–December festival and conference season.
Where Visitors Are Coming From
South Korea and China remain the top two source markets by volume, as they have been for the past three years. The data point that will surprise some travellers: Russia is now the third-largest market, with arrivals up 165.7% year-on-year. Direct charter and scheduled services from several Russian cities, combined with Vietnam’s 45-day visa waiver, have driven rapid growth.

The ASEAN regional bloc collectively accounts for a smaller share than European and Northeast Asian markets, but intra-ASEAN leisure travel to Vietnam has been growing steadily on the back of improved low-cost carrier connections.
What It Means on the Ground
For practical travellers, these numbers matter. Vietnam’s most popular corridors — Ha Long Bay, Hoi An and Da Nang, the Sapa highlands, and Hanoi’s Old Quarter — are running near capacity on peak weekends. Overnight cruise bookings on Ha Long Bay were running six to eight weeks ahead for peak Saturdays earlier in the year; that window has extended further.
If you are planning a trip in October through December, accommodation and boat tours need to be booked now, not on arrival. Hoi An’s boutique hotels in particular fill rapidly for the full moon lantern festivals (which fall each month), and the festival weeks in October and November see demand exceed supply noticeably.
Budget accommodation in major cities is still relatively available, but mid-range and boutique properties at the best addresses book out three to four weeks ahead during this season.
