Sun PhuQuoc Airways is adding two new international routes to China this week, marking a significant step for the Vietnamese carrier as it expands beyond domestic and regional flying.
The New Routes
Ho Chi Minh City–Shanghai Pudong begins on 25 October 2026, operating daily with Airbus A321neo aircraft. The service connects Tan Son Nhat International Airport directly with Shanghai’s main international gateway.
Phu Quoc–Shenzhen launches two days later on 27 October 2026, running three times weekly on an Airbus A320neo. This is the first direct link between the island and mainland China’s tech and manufacturing hub in Guangdong province, a city with a large outbound tourism base.
Both routes operate under Sun PhuQuoc Airways’ Northern Winter 2026/27 season schedule.
What This Means for Travellers
Until now, Chinese visitors flying to Phu Quoc from Shenzhen had no direct option - the connection required a transit in either Guangzhou or Hong Kong. The new service reduces total journey time by several hours and removes the complexity of a connection for what is already a popular beach holiday route from southern China.
The Ho Chi Minh City–Shanghai route competes with existing services from Vietnam Airlines and VietJet Air but adds capacity ahead of the peak October-to-March travel season. Sun PhuQuoc’s A321neo configuration and positioning as a lower-cost carrier may offer fare competition on this corridor.
Sun PhuQuoc Airways is also increasing frequencies on existing routes this winter: Phu Quoc–Hong Kong moves to two daily flights, and Phu Quoc–Taipei reaches seven weekly departures.
