Vietnam’s National Day falls on September 2 — the anniversary of Ho Chi Minh’s declaration of independence in 1945 — and in 2026 it anchors a five-day public holiday. Workers have August 29 (Saturday) through September 2 (Wednesday) off, with businesses returning to normal on Thursday, September 3.
Ho Chi Minh City Fireworks
Ho Chi Minh City has confirmed fireworks displays at seven locations on the evening of September 2, with shows beginning at 9pm. The main display is expected at Tao Dan Park in District 3, with additional sites across the city including locations in Binh Thanh, District 7, and District 12. The displays typically last around 15 minutes. Crowds gather from around 7pm, so arrive early if you want a good vantage point near the launch sites.
Traffic restrictions will apply around the main display areas on the evening of September 2. The city authority advises using motorbike taxis or walking from nearby districts rather than driving private vehicles close to Tao Dan.
Hoi An Adds National Day Performances
The Hoi An Memories outdoor show — a nightly spectacular staged on the Thu Bon River — has added an extended performance segment for August 26 through September 2 in recognition of the National Day period. The additional segment runs for approximately 15 minutes beyond the standard show runtime.

What to Expect Across Vietnam
Domestic tourism peaks sharply during the National Day break. Hotel rates in popular destinations — particularly Da Nang, Da Lat, Phu Quoc, and Ha Long Bay — will be at high-season prices, and many properties will be sold out or close to it. Book accommodation now if you have not already done so.
Transport is equally busy. Trains and buses between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, and flights on domestic routes, typically sell out for the first two days of the holiday window. We recommend booking a return ticket as well as your onward journey before you depart.
Markets, museums, and public parks across the country hold events and exhibitions. Most government offices and many shops will close on September 2 itself, though tourist-facing businesses generally remain open.
