Phong Nha-Ke Bang caves

Phong Nha’s accommodation is spread along the valley road. The village strip has most options; some properties are set back from the road in the rice fields for a quieter, more scenic setting.

Village strip guesthouses

The main concentration of guesthouses is on the road through Phong Nha village. Basic to mid-range properties with private rooms, air-con, and en-suite bathrooms. Most have restaurant facilities and can organise cave tours and motorbike hire.

Prices: ₫200,000–500,000 ($8–20) per night for budget private rooms. Mid-range rooms with better facilities: ₫500,000–1,000,000 ($20–40).

Valley eco-lodges and farmstays

Several properties set in the rice fields away from the road offer a more scenic experience. These typically have bungalow-style rooms in garden or paddy field settings.

Phong Nha Farmstay: The most well-known guesthouse in the area. Set in a converted farm with bungalows in the fields and a communal social space. Popular with travellers doing multi-day cave expeditions. Pool, good restaurant. ₫500,000–1,200,000 ($20–48). Advance booking recommended.

The Pub with Cold Beer: A legendary budget option — a guesthouse with a famous bar, cold beer, and a social atmosphere. Dorm beds and basic private rooms. ₫150,000–300,000 ($6–12). Known for its convivial atmosphere and local family character.

Mid-range and boutique

Phong Nha Lake House Resort: On a lake in the valley with bungalows and a pool. Scenic setting, higher standard than the village guesthouses. ₫1,000,000–2,500,000 ($40–100).

Chay Lap Farmstay: Riverside farmstay property with pool, restaurant, and a good base for Oxalis cave expeditions. ₫700,000–1,500,000 ($28–60).

Practical notes

Booking: Peak periods (September–December, July–August) require booking. The village is small and good options fill up. The Phong Nha Farmstay in particular needs advance booking.

Mosquitoes: The valley is humid and mosquito-active from dusk. Ensure accommodation has mosquito nets or screens.

Rainy season: October–December is the wettest period in Phong Nha. Some roads flood. Paradise Cave remains open; check with operators about other cave accessibility.
