Things to do here

The top-rated tours and activities here — all with instant confirmation and free cancellation on most bookings.

Da Lat’s highland location puts several worthwhile day trips within motorbike or car distance. The drive down to the coast (Nha Trang or Phan Rang) is one of Vietnam’s best road journeys.

Cau Dat Tea and Coffee Farm (25km south)

The French colonial plantation with terraced tea bushes at 1,500m elevation. The farm road follows the ridge southeast of Da Lat through pine forest before descending to the farm.

Best time: Morning, when mist sits in the valley below the tea rows. The light on the terraces is best 06:30–09:00.

The on-site café serves tea and coffee from the plantation directly. ₫30,000–60,000 ($1.20–2.40) per cup.

How to get there: Motorbike (30 minutes). Follow Highway 20 south then the farm access road. Self-guided visit — no tour required.

Nha Trang via the Ngoang Pass (130km)

The descent from Da Lat to the coast through the Ngoang Pass is one of Vietnam’s best motorbike routes. From 1,500m highland city to sea level in 130km — the road passes through rubber plantations, highland forest, and increasingly tropical vegetation before reaching the coast near Nha Trang.

As a day trip: Leave Da Lat at 06:00, arrive Nha Trang for a beach swim and lunch, drive back in the afternoon arriving by 18:00. Long (6+ hours of riding) but feasible for fit riders.

One-way route: Many travellers do Da Lat to Nha Trang one-way as a transition between the highlands and the coast, leaving their Da Lat motorbike at a guesthouse and hiring a new one.

Di Linh Highlands and Coffee Country (70km south)

The road south of Da Lat through Bao Loc and Di Linh passes through the heart of the Vietnamese coffee belt. Roadside coffee processing facilities, small Arabica farms, and the distinctive smell of drying coffee cherries are characteristic of this route.

A half-day round trip by motorbike from Da Lat visits the Di Linh plateau and returns via a different highland road.

Pongour Waterfall (50km south)

Vietnam’s largest waterfall by width (100m), 50km by road from Da Lat. Best visited in the wet season (June–October) when water volume is maximum. The drive through highland farmland is good. 2–3 hours round trip by motorbike.

Prenn Pass and Prenn Waterfall (8km south)

The road leaving Da Lat southward drops through the Prenn Pass with views of the highland plateau behind. The Prenn Waterfall near the pass is a 10-minute stop. More a transit interest than a destination.

Practical logistics

Motorbike hire: ₫120,000–200,000 ($4.80–8) per day in Da Lat. Automatic scooters are available but the mountain roads south toward the coast are more comfortably ridden on a 110–125cc semi-auto.

Fuel: Fill up before leaving Da Lat. Petrol stations on the Nha Trang route are present but at longer intervals on the mountain section.
