Things to do here

Mui Ne is one of Southeast Asia’s premier wind sports destinations. The northeast monsoon wind from November to April creates consistent, reliable conditions for kitesurfing and windsurfing.

Wind Conditions

Best season: November–April. The northeast monsoon delivers 15–25 knot winds consistently. December–February is the peak wind period.

Off-season (May–October): The wind drops. Summer months have weaker and less consistent wind — not suitable for kitesurfing courses but the beach is quieter and prices drop.

Wind direction: Onshore northeast wind creates manageable sea state for learners — not too choppy, waves not too large. The Mui Ne beach is oriented to maximise use of this wind direction.

Kitesurfing

Mui Ne is one of the best places in Southeast Asia to learn kitesurfing.

Why learn here:

  • Consistent, reliable wind with predictable conditions
  • Warm water (26–29°C) — extended practice sessions are comfortable
  • Flat, wide beach with plenty of recovery space
  • Multiple IKO-certified schools with experienced instructors
  • Competitive pricing compared to equivalent schools in Phuket, Sri Lanka, or the Canary Islands

Beginner course (IKO Level 1 and 2): 9–12 hours of instruction split across 3–4 days. Covers safety, kite control, body dragging, board control, and first water starts. Most students achieve independent riding by lesson completion.

Price: ₫2,500,000–4,000,000 ($100–160) for the full beginner course. All equipment included.

Schools: Windchimes Kiteboarding, Kite School Pro, C2Sky Kiteboarding, and Sankara Kiteschool are the most established operators with IKO certification and consistent reviews. Visit schools in person to assess equipment condition and instructor rapport before committing.

Equipment rental (for experienced kiters): ₫500,000–900,000 ($20–36) per 2-hour session. Specify your kite size preference and skill level.

Windsurfing

Available alongside kitesurfing on the same beach. The wind conditions are equally good for windsurfing.

Beginner lessons: ₫400,000–700,000 ($16–28) per hour with equipment.

Equipment rental: ₫200,000–400,000 ($8–16) per hour for experienced windsurfers.

Less popular than kitesurfing but the Mui Ne conditions are as suitable.

Surfing

Mui Ne has some surf, but the conditions are not consistent enough for dedicated surfing trips. The main wave period is during the kite season (northeast wind), with beach breaks. The waves are typically 1–2m — suitable for beginners but not advanced surfers.

Several kite schools also offer surfing lessons: ₫300,000–500,000 ($12–20) per hour.

Stand-Up Paddle Boarding

SUP board hire is available from several resorts on the strip. Morning sessions (before the kite wind picks up) are the calm-water window. ₫150,000–250,000 ($6–10) per hour.

Practical notes

Insurance: All kite courses require health insurance that covers watersports. Some schools require evidence; others provide their own injury coverage within the course price. Clarify before starting.

Conditions update: Wind conditions change daily. Schools post daily wind reports. The Facebook groups for Mui Ne kitesurfing have current conditions from the kite schools.
