Quy Nhon is one of Vietnamβs best-value coastal cities - a proper beachfront town with a working fishing harbour, genuine local food, and accommodation prices significantly below the tourist-saturated alternatives further north and south. The trade-off is that it is less polished than Da Nang or Nha Trang. For independent travellers, that is the appeal.
City Beachfront: The Main Accommodation Zone
Avani Quy Nhon Resort is the standout property - directly on the beach, with a good pool and restaurant. The most reliable upscale experience in the city. β«1,500,000β4,000,000 ($60β160) per night.
FLC Quy Nhon Beach and Golf Resort is a large resort complex south of the city with multiple pools, a golf course, and private beach sections. The resort operates at a Vietnamese domestic market scale - more comprehensive facilities than the Avani but less internationally focused. β«1,000,000β3,000,000 ($40β120) per night.
Seagull Hotel (Hai Au) is the reliable mid-range choice on the main beach road. Long-established, well-maintained, with a pool. β«500,000β1,200,000 ($20β48) per night.
Anh Viet Hotel is good value in the city centre - clean rooms, helpful staff, and a location convenient for both the beach and the cityβs seafood restaurant district. β«400,000β900,000 ($16β36).
Budget: Guesthouses and Bai Xep
Budget guesthouses (Nguyen Hue Street area): A cluster of small family-run guesthouses two to three blocks from the beach. Basic but honest value. β«200,000β450,000 ($8β18) per night.
Bai Xep Fishing Village (10km south of the city) offers a completely different experience. Several small guesthouses in a traditional fishing village setting with a calm bay beach. Fishing boats on the beach at dawn, the village operating around you. Basic rooms from β«200,000β400,000 ($8β16) per night. Simple facilities but the setting is genuinely special. Access by motorbike or arranged transport.
Ghenh Rang Area
The rocky headland south of the main city beach has a few small properties in a quieter setting, within cycling distance of the centre. A good option for travellers who want the beachfront without the street-level activity of the main strip.
Practical Notes
Beachfront premium: Accommodation directly on the beach road costs 30β50% more than equivalent properties one block back. The Quy Nhon beachfront is the cityβs main feature - the premium is usually worthwhile.
Booking approach: Much of Quy Nhonβs accommodation is not strongly represented on international booking platforms. Walking in and checking rooms directly is standard practice outside Vietnamese holidays. The Avani and FLC are bookable normally online.
Getting here: Phu Cat Airport (35km) has direct flights from Hanoi, HCMC, and Da Nang. A Grab or taxi from the airport costs approximately β«200,000β300,000 ($8β12) and takes 40β50 minutes. Overnight trains from Hanoi and HCMC also stop at Dieu Tri station, 10km from the city.
