Vung Tau’s strongest draw is its seafood. The fishing fleet supplies fresh catch daily and the city has developed a strong eating culture around it. Seafood here is generally cheaper and fresher than in HCMC.

Seafood restaurants (Bai Dau area)

Bai Dau is a small beach on the northwest tip of the peninsula, 5km from the centre. The seafood restaurants along the Bai Dau beachfront road are consistently rated as the best in Vung Tau. Whole grilled fish, tiger prawns, scallops, crab, and clams cooked in multiple styles.

Goc Bien Restaurant: A long-running seafood restaurant on the Bai Dau strip. Reliable quality, good tiger prawns. ₫200,000–500,000 ($8–20) per person for a full seafood meal.

Bai Dua area: Multiple competing restaurants on the north beachfront. Walk the strip and choose by what’s freshest at the counter.

Banh Khot

A Vung Tau specialty — small crispy rice flour cups (similar in appearance to banh can but distinct in preparation) filled with shrimp, mung bean paste, or spring onion, served with fresh herbs and fish sauce. Found in small restaurants throughout the city.

Banh Khot Co Ba: The most recommended traditional banh khot spot in Vung Tau. In the Back Beach area. ₫60,000–100,000 ($2.40–4) per serving.

Goi Ca (Fish Salad)

Thin-sliced raw or lightly cured fish tossed with herbs, roasted peanuts, rice crackers, and a vinegary dressing. A Vung Tau local dish not widely found elsewhere. Served at small local restaurants near the central market.

Local eating around the market (Cho Vung Tau)

The central market area has cheap local restaurants serving bun bo, pho, banh mi, and rice dishes. This is where locals eat — not the tourist-facing strip. Budget: ₫40,000–80,000 ($1.60–3.20) for a full meal.

Good Morning Vietnam

An Italian restaurant on the Front Beach promenade. Higher prices but consistent quality for travellers who want a break from Vietnamese food. ₫150,000–350,000 ($6–14) per person.

Beachfront restaurants (Back Beach strip)

The Back Beach strip has multiple seafood and Vietnamese restaurants. Prices are 20–40% higher than town equivalents for the same food — you’re paying for the location. Still good value by international standards.
