Nha Trang has one main city beach plus several alternative beaches outside the city. The offshore island beaches are accessible by boat.

Nha Trang City Beach

The 6km main beach along Tran Phu Boulevard. Wide, with regular cleaning operations, and usually good swimming conditions April–October. The beach is backed by hotels on one side. The best section is the northern end, slightly away from the most commercial strip.

Water quality: Variable. The bay receives run-off from the city and the port area. After rain, swimming is not recommended. On dry season mornings, the water is usually clear.

Facilities: Sunbeds along most of the beach. Beach vendors (coconuts, corn, massages). Lifeguards operate during peak season. Public showers at intervals.

Bai Dai (Long Beach)

40km south of the city, Bai Dai is a 10km undeveloped beach with clear water and very few facilities. The drive from Nha Trang (40 minutes by motorbike) is scenic. The beach itself — wide, backed by trees, no hotels yet — is what Nha Trang’s main beach probably looked like 30 years ago.

Bring food and water. Minimal facilities on site. Best for travellers with a motorbike and a desire for quiet beach time.

Doc Let Beach

55km north of Nha Trang, Doc Let is a flat, calm beach with shallow water and good swimming conditions. Famously good for children — the water is gentle for 100m from shore. Somewhat overdeveloped with resorts but still a calmer alternative to the city beach.

Getting there: By motorbike (1 hour) or organised day trip. Several Nha Trang guesthouses run Doc Let day trips.

Island Beaches (Hon Tam, Hon Mieu, Hon Mot)

The nearby islands have beaches accessible only by boat. These beaches are cleaner than the city beach and the water clarity is better (especially near Hon Mun).

Hon Tam: The most accessible island resort. A day resort with beach umbrellas, a pool, and water sports equipment. Accessible by speedboat from the city pier (15 minutes). Day pass: ₫200,000–400,000 ($8–16).

Island hopping trips: The standard 4-island day trip visits beaches and snorkelling spots. ₫200,000–350,000 ($8–14) per person for the group trip.

Swimming season

Nha Trang is swimmable year-round for much of the dry season, which runs roughly January–August. The wet season (October–November) brings rough seas and contamination after heavy rain. July–August is peak beach season — the most crowded.
